Mike’s Story

Mike has been a member of the Humbled Trader Community since April 2020. Though he’s only been day trading for a short time, Mike has successfully learned how to day trade, swing trade, and buy/write options. He is on track to eventually be able to leave his day job to pursue trading full-time.

When I decided to learn how to day trade, I knew there were three things that I wanted. One, I did not want to hear more empty promises about how easy it was to make millions of dollars on the Stock Market. Just like anything in life, I knew day trading was a skill that would have to be developed and that time and effort would be needed. Two, I wanted to learn from a female. Wall Street has been an industry dominated by men, and I wanted someone with a fresh perspective and without all the bravado. In her videos, HT was always clear about the expectations for getting into trading--at first, you would lose money. But eventually, you would get better at it and make money. Lastly, I wanted the best teacher, because I knew I would have a lot of questions that needed answering. By profession, I am a public school teacher and I quickly realized that HT knew how to quickly deliver information in a way that people can understand and do it with humor.

My experience interacting with the various HT community coaches has been excellent. They are all patient and kind-hearted people looking to help other people achieve their dreams. I ask a lot of questions. A lot. The moderators were always gracious in answering all of my questions and never made me feel dumb for asking about the basics.

Lev Vygotsky believed that all learning occurs through social interaction and I knew from the start that I would have to be part of a bigger community. The community gave me a platform for possible trade ideas, and gave me constructive feedback on trade ideas I brought to the table. Having the community around me allowed me to grow at a much quicker pace than if I was trying to learn in isolation.

As a result of my time with the HT community I have learned how to day trade, swing trade, and buy/write options. I learned how to read technical charts under various time frames, and how to identify support and resistance levels to determine good entry and exit points. I gained insight on how to scan for stocks that were good for both long and short side trades. I now understand how to express trade ideas in a number of different profitable ways and how to manage risk. I can recognize volatility and instead of being afraid of it, I know how to use it to my advantage.

HT was correct in setting the expectation that I would experienced some losses, but I learned more from my losses than my wins. My win rate is now over 70% and I am on track to be able to leave my full-time job within the next couple of years. The skills I learned alongside the HT community is changing the direction of my future and providing a better future for my family. I plan on being part of the HT community for a long time.
